On the lovely, less tourist-traveled piazza Beccaria, DOLCI & DOLCEZZE is as arresting to the eye as it is to the palate. With its elegant mint-lacquered facade and strikingly beautiful interior of oil paintings, crystal chandellers, and inlaid marble floor, this diminutive pasticceria presents its signature flourless chocolate cake and delicious fresh fruit tarts, along with a selection of equally intriguing savories.
Having no professional training and just a passion for inventive baking, Ilaria Balatresi started the shop with her husband Giulio in 1991. Since his death, she has maintained the business with her two children, exacting the same high standards: only the best quality ingredients, in season, are used.
In winter, look for marrons glacés and chocolates, while in summer, magic is made with all seasonal fruits. Stand at the bar and enjoy a cappuccino or hot chocolate served in an elegant china cup while contemplating the shelves of beautifully displayed marmellate, gianduia and biscotti.
It would be difficult to leave DOLCI & DOLCEZZE without taking note of the plaque that states "Sono la torta al cioccolato più buona del mondo." (I'm the world's best chocolate cake.). This is no exaggeration.
